Hamilton scores winner, Marlies sweep Bulldogs to conclude pre-season
While it may only be pre-season the Toronto
Marlies don’t take the Hamilton Bulldogs lightly.
The Toronto Marlies concluded their pre-season with a 2-0 victory over their Ontario rivals, the Hamilton Bulldogs. The first period was scoreless but saw Hamilton outshoot the Marlies 17-6.
In the second, Toronto jumped on the score sheet. At 11:22 of the period, Mark Fraser sprung Ryan Hamilton on a breakaway and slid the puck past Peter Delmas. 1-0 Toronto. Hamilton, acquired in 2009 from the Minnesota Wild for Robbie Earl is entering his 2nd season as the Marlies Captain. Hamilton’s marker was the only goal in the second. After 40 minutes the shots were 23-14 in favor of Hamilton.
In the 3rd period Toronto added to their lead early. Just under three minutes into the frame Marlies rookie Sam Carrick found twine. Carrick one-timed a feed from Greg McKegg, which slid under Delmas giving the boys in blue a 2-0 lead. Two was all that the Marlies would need. Ben Scrivens and Jussi Rynnas combined for 29 saves in the 2-0 victory.
With the pre-season over the Marlies shift their attention to next Saturday. Toronto opens the regular season at home against the Rochester Americans at 5pm.
Notes –
- Greg McKegg suited up for two games with the Marlies last season. The 20 year old totaled 75 points last season spending time with the Erie Otters and the London Knights.
